Privacy policy

Marrythere helps couples plan destination weddings: a wedding website, guest list, RSVPs, rooms and room payments. This policy explains what personal information we handle, why we handle it and the choices you have. It covers couples and the people who help them plan, and guests invited through a Marrythere website.
Who we are
We are responsible for your personal information under UK data protection law. You can contact us about anything in this policy at contact@marrythere.com.
What we collect
If you plan a wedding
- Your account: your name, email address and, if you have one, your profile photo, from signing in.
- Your wedding: what you add, such as names, dates, the destination and venue, events, a budget figure, website text and photos.
- Membership: Stripe takes your card details. We see your membership status, the price you pay, your invoices and your card's type, last four digits and expiry date, never the full card number.
- Guest payments: to pay you, Stripe asks for your identity and bank details directly. We keep your Stripe account ID, whether it's ready to take payments, and its country and currency for fee estimates.
- How you use the workspace: if analytics is on, the pages you view, your clicks and any errors, linked to your account. See Analytics below.
- How you found us: if you arrived through one of our links, for example from Instagram, TikTok or an advert, we note which one on your account.
If you're a guest
The couple, or someone helping them plan, adds your details, and you can add or change some of them when you reply. Depending on what they ask for, this can include:
- your name, email address, phone number and postal address;
- whether you're an adult or a child, your household and any plus-one;
- your replies to their events, your meal choices and your answers to their questions;
- dietary requirements and accessibility needs;
- your travel plans, such as arrival and departure details, and whether you need somewhere to stay;
- the room you're staying in and your payments for it. Stripe handles your card; we receive the amount, its status, the receipt link and the name and email address you paid with.
Dietary requirements and accessibility needs can say something about your health or beliefs. They're used only so the couple and their planners can look after you, and only people planning the wedding can see them.
How we use it
- To run Marrythere: the planning workspace, each household's invitation, replies, rooms and payments.
- To bill memberships and collect our fee on room payments.
- To keep Marrythere secure, for example by limiting repeated attempts and looking into problems.
- To improve Marrythere, using analytics from the planning workspace, and to see which of our links and adverts bring people to Marrythere. We never use analytics on wedding websites or invitation pages.
- To meet legal duties, such as keeping financial records.
We don't sell personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
Our legal reasons
- Contract: to provide the service couples sign up for.
- Legitimate interests: to run the guest side of each wedding for the couple, and to keep Marrythere secure and improve it. Guests' information is only used for the wedding they're invited to.
- Legal obligation: to keep financial records.
- Choice: guests decide whether to share dietary and accessibility details. Couples should only add them with their guests' agreement.
Who can see it
- The couple and their helpers: partners and planners see what the couple allows.
- Guests: each household sees only its own invitation, replies, rooms and payments, as well as the wedding website.
- Our service providers, who run parts of Marrythere for us under contract: Clerk (sign-in), Convex (database and photo storage), Stripe (membership billing and guest payments), Vercel (hosting), Cloudflare (checking that sign-ups come from people) and PostHog (analytics, if it's switched on). Room payments go to the couple's own Stripe account, so Stripe handles them for the couple too.
- Others, only when needed: authorities when the law requires it, or a buyer if Marrythere is ever sold, who would have to protect your information in the same way.
Storage outside the UK
Some of our providers store or process information outside the UK, including in the United States. When they do, we rely on safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK–US data bridge.
How long we keep it
- A wedding's information stays until the couple deletes the wedding. Deleting it removes the wedding and everything in it, including guests, replies, the website, photos, rooms and payment records, from our database straight away. Couples can download a copy first in Settings.
- Your account details stay while you have an account. Email us to close it.
- Stripe keeps its own payment records for as long as financial rules require.
Cookies and storage on your device
- Sign-in: Clerk sets cookies that keep you signed in. Marrythere can't work without them.
- Wedding websites: your invitation is remembered in that browser tab until you close it, so you don't have to open your link again on every page.
- Preferences: your choice of membership currency is remembered on your device.
- Payments: Stripe sets its own cookies on its payment pages to prevent fraud.
Analytics stores nothing on your device, and we don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
Analytics
If analytics is on, we use PostHog to see how couples and planners use the workspace: the pages viewed, clicks and errors, linked to your account ID. Click records leave out the text of what you clicked, web addresses are recorded without invitation codes, and any session recordings hide all page text and everything you type. On our home page, analytics only counts visits and notes which of our links each visit came from. Analytics never runs on wedding websites or invitation pages.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your information, and ask us to correct it, delete it, limit how we use it or send it to you or another service. You can also object to how we use it. Couples can download or delete a wedding at any time in Settings. Guests can ask the couple to change or remove their details, or contact us. We'll reply within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
Marrythere accounts are for adults. Couples can add children as guests, for example for meal choices, and only the people planning the wedding can see their details.
Keeping it safe
Information travels over encrypted connections, every request is checked against what that person is allowed to see, and card details stay with Stripe.
Changes
When we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change affects how we use your information, we'll tell couples before it takes effect.
