Getting married in Crete

Greece's largest island: mountains, olive groves and long beaches.

Crete offers far more space and variety than the smaller islands: Venetian harbour towns, mountain villages, olive estates and long sandy beaches. It's a good choice for bigger weddings and guests who want to explore.

When to go

The season is long, from April or May through October. Spring brings wildflowers, and early autumn keeps the sea warm.

How guests get there

Crete has two main international airports, at Heraklion and Chania, with direct flights from many European cities in season.

Where guests stay

There's accommodation for every budget, from family-run guesthouses and restored villas to large beach resorts that can house a whole wedding.

Ideas for the weekend

  • A Cretan feast with live music
  • A day at one of the island's famous beaches
  • A wander through Chania's old harbour

Good to know

  • Crete is big. Choose a base area so guests aren't driving for hours between events.
